BEGO GERBER
President and Co-Founder
Bego Gerber is President and Co-Founder of Chemists Without Borders, and
focuses on board development, fundraising, public relations and
partnerships. He
is an Executive Associate accredited by the Institute for Independent
Business. He is Managing Director of Business Development International,
a lifestyle marketing company. Dr Gerber's experience ranges from
academic medical research to patented new product development in a
no-walls start-up and in Fortune 100 R&D; and from idea processing
and information management to entrepreneurial lifestyle marketing and
the development of B-Quadrant businesses on the Internet. Bego was
educated at Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, has Master's and
Doctoral degrees from the University of California, and was a
postdoctoral fellow at The Johns Hopkins University. Bego is a
passionate Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected
children.

STEVE CHAMBREAU
Vice-President of Memberships and Co-Founder
Steve
Chambreau is a Co-founder of Chemists Without Borders, and is Vice President of Memberships, responsible for member
recruitment and management, volunteer services, and technology management. Dr. Chambreau is a
Research Scientist in the Propellants Branch at the Air Force Research
Laboratory
at Edwards Air Force Base, where he studies reaction dynamics. He is a
consultant for hydrogen technologies, and is a tutor for high
scool chemistry students. Steve grew up in California, attended school
at UC Berkeley (BS
1993), San Diego State University (MS 1997), and UC Riverside (PhD
2002). He
spent 2 years working as an NRC Associate at the Air Force Research
Laboratory
at Hanscom AFB near Boston, and 2 years as a postdoc with Professor
Arthur
Suits at Wayne State University. |
Louis Ciabattoni
Membership Manager
Lou is helping Chemists Without Borders manage, communicate, and interact with our members, chapters, and partners. He is responsible for managing over 450 members in 30 countries and participates in our weekly executive committee meetings.
Lou created SQL*LIMS and its family of laboratory business solutions. Starting his career at Mobil Oil as a biochemist and programmer, has worked at Perkin Elmer, Applied Biosystems, start ups, and Oracle Corporation in product management and/or product marketing.
Lou received his bachelor of arts in Chemistry in 1978 from Rutgers University and attended Babson College Executive Program in 1998. He has over 20 years of experience in LIMS and manufacturing, was a faculty member at the Center of Advanced Placement, and holds an APICS Certification in Production and Inventory Management.

Lois K Ongley
Secretary
Lois K. Ongley is Associate Professor of Chemistry at Unity College in Maine.
She has earned both a BA and an MS
in Geology (1973 Middlebury College and 1977 Texas A&M University) as well as an MES
and PhD in Environmental Science and Engineering (Rice University 1988 and 1993).
Her professional work includes stints as a shipboard oceanographic technician and as
an oil and gas exploration geologist. She was the founding president of the
Association for Women Geoscientists Foundation and also served that organization
as treasurer. Dr. O has taught chemistry in secondary schools as well as chemistry,
hydrogeology, geology, and aqueous geochemistry at the college level.
She and her undergraduate students have collaborated with Dr. Aurora Armienta
and Dr. Ramiro Rodriguez of UNAM to study the arsenic contamination in Zimapan, Mexico,
with funding from the National Science Foundation’s Research Experience for Undergraduates Program.
She now teaches general chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical methods, and environmental analysis
at Unity College. Her research interests include water contamination (As and P),
effective teaching techniques in geoscience and chemistry, and gender issues in science. |
Jay Raghunathan
IT Leader
At Chemists Without Borders, Jay Raghunathan is primarily responsible
for building the information technology (IT) capabilities,
leading the efforts and sustaining strong growth of the IT organization.
Jay brings many years of experience in IT and expertise in application development,
change management, framework development, global implementation, lean project delivery, process improvement,
strategy development and management consulting, with a proven track record in creation and growth of agile
delivery organizations.
Jay has spearheaded numerous business and technology transformation initiatives spanning diverse business
functions and industry segments in the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. He has offered
and implemented automation, application modernization, business analytics, business process reengineering,
collaboration, knowledge management, systems integration and workflow solutions at small, medium and large
companies.
Jay has a master’s degree in Information Systems from the University of San Francisco.

Julia Russell
Development Officer
At Chemists Without Borders, Julia Russell is primarily responsible for corporate fundraising both for
specific projects and for the organization as a whole. Julia grew up in Northern California,
received her BA in Environmental Politics from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington,
and is now living in the Bay Area again. She is the Foundation and Corporate Relations
Associate at The Bay Area Discovery Museum, an environmentally
focused children's museum in Marin County.

Nina Paquette
Strategic External Communications Officer
Nina will plan strategic direction for Chemists Without Borders' external communications, while working with the internal communications and fundraising team members
on overall communication strategy. She will lead communications in the recruitment of key board members, advisors and partners and develop relationships with media contacts.
A member of the executive leadership team, she will help define the external face and voice of Chemists Without Borders. Nina is a freelance communicator and owner of Brand New Ideas, L.L.C.,
in Midland, Michigan. She has a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin- Madison and, before starting her own business, she was a senior account executive in a marketing
and communications agency in Midland. She and her husband, Dr Michael Paquette, have three grown sons who currently live in San Francisco, Chicago and Ulsan, South Korea.
